ABOUT Avery Dennison Monarch Label Adhesive

Introduction

The world-wide company Monarch Marking Systems is a division of Avery Dennison. Avery Dennison invented the self adhesive label. To be more precise, it was R. Stanton Avery who invented it in 1935.

There are 3 types of adhesive for most Avery Dennison Monarch labels.

Labels with General Purpose Adhesive

• These are good general purpose labels, adhering well to most items.
• This type of label is composed of easily torn, flexible face paper with good ink absorbency, even at cold temperatures. The face paper has been undercoated to resist adhesive penetration, even at warmer temperatures. The label is laminated with an adhesive which adheres to most items down to minus 37 degrees C and is difficult to remove from many cold items.
• The silicone impregnated backing paper has been designed for optimum performance when used in the Monarch Marking hand-held labellers, balancing paper strength, release level, thickness and flexibility.  
• This type of labels has a quick "grab" or tack for general purpose room temperature labelling.
• Security cuts in the label make the label more flexible for curved surfaces
• These labels may have limited adhesion on a few surfaces such as poly-bags which may contain oil or other contaminates used in the printing or processing of the bags

Applications include:

Labels with Permanent Adhesive

• These labels are generally only supplied for custom made labels for specific purposes.
• The most common application is for Water Resistant Labels for labelling plant pots in garden shops.
• This is a good general purpose permanent label, adhering well to most items when applied above 10 degrees C.
• Security cuts in the label will aid in the prevention of label switching. The label is difficult to remove intact from most surfaces and, therefore, offers high security.
• The label is composed of easily torn, flexible face paper with good ink absorbing qualities resistant to adhesive penetration. It is laminated with a strong, high tack, permanent adhesive, having excellent aging properties and adhesion to most surfaces, including films and cartons.
