Fresh food retailers, particlarly independents, are faced with more and more competition from large national retailers and the internet. To compete they need to present their foods better then their opposition. It is no longer good enough to present the food on any trays, dish, platter or bowl.

Displays need to look exciting and evoke emotions in the minds of the customers as they stand in front of the display. It needs to make their mouths water. Or induce them to think about having a BBQ outside with family. Or a weekend picnic at their favourite beach. Or creating a special meal of a partner. Merchandising fresh food is no longer about selling food. It is all about adding WOW! Factor to the display and "selling a dream"
The Kata range of crocks consists of heavy duty crocks made from commercial quality melamine. They are durable, scratch and break resistant and easy to clean. The sizes of the crocks meet the European Gastronorm Size Standards for food display trays and bowls. So they are modular and can be displayed in display cabinets or on buffet table with little or no wasted space.
When these crocks are used as a bowl there are three bowl depths 38mm, 70mm and 100mm, making them suitable to display a wide range of foods from sushi, red meat, salads and value-added dishes.
Magic hapens when you invert the crocks. They are transformed into display platters that are perfect for displaying featured food products including meats in a butcher shops or many of the products displayed in gourmet deli cabinets. Less-is-more. The platters have a shallow, raised edge so, should there be any meat juices emanating from the food, it pools in the centre of the platter away from view.
Whether inverted or not, these crocks can be stacked to create variable elevations for the products on display. Your display will look more interesting and exciting.
Dalebrook have recently released speckled white versions of the Kata Crocks. Use the black and white crocks to create visually distinct zones within your display to highlight different product groups. For example baked or value added foods in a white zone. And raw meats in a black zone. This approach assists customers to scan the whole display even when they are in a hurry.
Or use them in a checkerboard pattern for visual effect.
The white Kata Crocks are not just for food products. Some progressive businesses in the hospitality and accomodation industries are using them for displays in bathrooms for example.

Yes! Very expensive? It depends on your perspective. When their prices are compared with the typical, run-of-the-mill trays and bowls used by many supermarkets and delis they are significantly more expensive. But they have not been designed for average looking displays. These crocks have been designed in Europe by Dalebrook to cater for increasing demand from gourmet supermarkets and craft butchers that want to stand out from their competitors. These food retailers know that display vessels like these add to the percieved value of the products on display.
We do not recoomend that most Australian fresh food retailers fill their whole display cabinets with Kata Crocks. These premium products are better used to create feature zones withing the display. Maybe to highlight antipasto in a deli. Or the top-of-the range gourmet cuts in a bucher display.'
When setting up a new fresh food business many businesses spend $10,000's on the refrigerated display cabinets. To spend $1000 to $2000 on Kata Crocks for a feature zone can be a cost effective additional investment.
We keep a small quantities of some of the Kata Crocks in Australia. But most orders are sourced direct from the overseas manufacturing factory. The lead times are typically 3-4 weeks.
We require most orders to be in multiples of carton quantities and minimum order requirements are about $1000.
