HOW TO GUIDE: Installing Concealed Stripping

  • Description

Introduction

For most applications Concealed Stripping is installed by a professional shopfitter or builder. It is not recommended that this task be undertaken by DIY installers.

The following notes provide guidelines on the best method on installation for different wall types. Email us if more information is required.

Preparation

The vertical Concealed Stripping can be installed at different horixontal spacings. The most commonly specified spacing is 600mm cnetre to centre. This spacing suits most of the Accessories for Concealed Stripping and minimises wastage when cutting the infill panels as most board manufacturers supply 2400x1200mm boards. Some applications (for example, childrens clothing) specify 900mm centre to centr spacings.

To calculate the number of vertical strips required ,measure the wall length and divide by 600mm (or 900mm) and add one strip for the last bay,

It is generally unwise to install the Concealed Stripping sitting directly on the floor. Most floors are not level or are undulating. Use a long spirit level or laser level to locate the high points in the floor and layout the stripping to accomodate these high points.

NOTE:  The Concealed Stripping vertical strips must be fixed to solid fixing points. They must never be fixed directly to plasterboard as this will not provide sufficient structural support. They can be fixed to the wall studs if they are appropriately spaced. Alternatively the wall can be clad with suitable backing boards such as 18mm thick MDF.

Installation Method

This involves fixing the Aluminium Concealed Stripping directly to a perfectly flat wall, for example, the  MDF backing panels referred to above.

  • The Concealed Stripping is supplied ready to install with pre-drilled holes. Additional holes can be drilled for heavier duty applications. Guideline grooves in the stripping are provided for this purpose.
  • Screws are not supplied as different applications will require different screw types and lengths. The screws must have countersunk heads.
  • Screw-fix the vertical Concealed Stripping at the correct spacings
  • Install the Infill Panels between the stripping. Use our horizontal aluminium Split Battens between the vertical stripping. One half of the matching Split Battens are fixed to the backs of the Infill Panels. The other half is fixed to the wall. This method of installation alolows the infill Panels to be instaklled without fixing points visible from the front. It also allows the Infill Panels to be removed and replaced with different types of panels
